Isle

When I was younger my favorite book was The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. The book touched upon the importance of being different. His scales are a perfect depiction of being unique in your own way. Perfection isn’t necessary, and that translated into the pendant lamp “Isle”.

“Isle” was featured in the Woods-Gerry Senior show for Industrial Design and was one out of seventeen submissions.

Process

Utilizing the shapes of the ocean and the organic patterns, this piece captures the ephemeral qualities I set out to capture.

This piece was intended for a children’s room. As a child grows, they tend to move through different phases of style. Keeping that in mind, “Isle” is a pendant lamp that will grow with the child through every phase and will remind them of how unique they are.

This is the first sewn piece I have ever made as well as the first light I have ever personally wired.
