ForYou
The ForYou is a jewelry piece that is designed to help women accept and appreciate their mastectomy scaring. In 2019 there was a large recall for breast implants that was causing an illness that killed 17 women and affected thousands of women around the world. Due to this illness, many women had to get their implant removed, many of whom were breast cancer survivors.
It is a futuristic jewelry piece that would help draw attention to themselves to discuss what they have been through and empower women to accept their scars.
The piece is annealed copper and hand shaped to the dimensions of the women’s breast plate.
Background
The ForYou was specifically designed with my mother in mind. My mother battled stage four breast cancer and was affected by breast implant illness. Once the implant was removed, she was left with a scar and was told she will never be able to have a breast again. This affected her so deeply that she couldn’t look at herself in the mirror. This trauma she had gone through ultimately led her to find a group of 500 women who had gone through the same experience.
Empowering Women
The women who endured this illness are strong, brave, courageous, and powerful. If others can see them in this way, they should be able to feel and see themselves in that way as well. The ForYou was designed to help women embrace their bodies and understand that their scars are beautiful and powerful.
